Dave's Windvane overhaul

Introducing Mr Fleming the windvane

After 100.000 seamiles the windvane steering gets overhauled by David who is doing a great job redoing all the bearings and other connections

Boat location

The Ar Seiz Avel is located in West Vancouver....Eagle Harbour

As you can see it is a very beautiful place.
Luckily Not allways covered in snow....it can be sunny and warmer as well.

" Fibreglassing "

After a week of drying the bilges.......then sealing it with penetrating epoxy........we fibre glassed the bilges........"NO MORE WATER in that bilge"...........Yaaaah

Surprise

After removing 2 water and 1 fuel tank we exposed the concrete floor underneath and noticed a few cracks with moister seeping up. We consulted with Michel Gaudin and learned that the concrete floor was not original probably a past owner added it to make the boat possible stiffer.

Here we see Dean taking out the first lead ingot......boy did we discover a lot of water as well.
Rented a Large Jack hammer and for 2 days we felt like roadworkers. We emptyd the 3 bilges of concrete, cement and water and took out about 600lb in lead ingots.

Tuesday December 02

The work begins
With removing the diesel tank.
First there is about 100li of diesel oil that needs to be pumped out.......the neighbor boat was pretty happy with all the free fuel........once the tank was empty and ith a bit of wiggling and a few ropes we finally got the tank out of the bilge. Yaaaaaaah ....step one is underway

Friday November 28

All Hands on Deck

As the rain is pouring down on us in buckets we unload the Ar Seiz Avel of a ton of gear to turn the boat into a workshop for the winter in preparation for the big job that lies ahead.
Jimmy [one of the directors] offers his spare container up as storage space. Dean, Dave, Donnie [also directors] al get soaked moving the gear in and out of their trucks........thanks for all your hard work and input.......Dinner was wel earned after all that

Diesel to Electric conversion Pilot Projects Begins!

On November 24
The Electric Sailing Project had it's first Director's meeting.
First thing was to update everyone with all the exciting developments that occurred while I was in Holland. I have posted everything on our website - so please check it out for more details but to summarize we got a full page story posted in the de beterewereld "a free" newspaper that is handed out in all the train stations; a visit to Royal Huisman Shipyards and a visit to the Mets at the Bellman electric propulsion booth resulted in a final decision on what motor to use for the Pilot Conversion Project
